Age Assurance: Addressing non-compliance, Circumvention, and Unintended Consequences

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk

Description

The Online Safety Act 2023 was a turning point for UK-based internet users. Now, to access online content that is inappropriate for children, individuals must submit to age assurance checks – a significant change from the previous unrestricted environment.
How can this be effectively managed? What are the implications for the unintended consequences, the anecdotal evidence of widespread circumvention, and indeed for the future of freedom of information and our privacy online? Our speakers, all of whom will attend in person will grapple with these challenges and discuss with you how to respond.
Speakers:
• Dr Mando Rachovitsa, Associate Professor in Human Rights Law, University of Nottingham
• Ellie Colegate, Teaching Associate, University of Nottingham
• Dr Claire Bessant, Associate Professor, Northumbria Law School
• Andy Lulham, Chief Operating Officer, Verifymy
• Julie Dawson, Chief Policy and Regulatory Officer, Yoti
