Guest lecture: ANDREAS LECHNER, Counterintuitive Typologies and the Frankenstein Periphery

Andreas Lechner is an Austrian architect and founding principal of Graz design practice Studio Andreas Lechner. He is an Associate Professor of Architecture at TU Graz and author of awards winning book, ︎︎︎Thinking Design - Blueprint for an Architecture of Typology. Andreas studied architecture at Graz University of Technology and after formative study stays in Los Angeles, trained as an architect living and working in Berlin, Tokyo and Vienna. He holds a PhD in Architecture (2009) and was post-doc visiting researcher at the IUAV University of Venice and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (KADK). He lectures and teaches internationally and is a visiting professor at the Politecnico di Milano. His research group ︎︎︎Counterintuitive Typologies is funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency FFG and he is co-editor of ︎︎︎GAM – Graz Architecture Magazine and of a forthcoming special issue of RIBA’s ︎︎︎The Journal of Architecture. Studio Andreas Lechner is a design and research practice with a commitment to the careful crafting of architectural solutions through a process of making. The studio seamlessly integrates design, teaching and research activities to form an integral part of the office’s engagement with architecture’s entanglements of spatial(ized) form and high-quality design in resource-efficient sustainable construction. Andreas is a licensed architect, a member of the Austrian Federal Chamber of Architects and Engineers and a voting member of the commission for the historic town of Graz.
