Description
With close to 60.000 regular force members in the Dutch Armed Forces, 5.000 reserve members and over 90.000 veterans, the Netherlands has a significant veteran population with unique risks, exposures and experiences that requires coordinated care. It is for this reason that we created the LZV – the National Health Care System for Veterans in the Netherlands. Our goal is to cure veterans with psychic and psychosocial mission related disorders and to achieve the sustained optimal social participation of traumatized veterans. For over ten years the LZV has worked to engage existing civil and military organizations with psychotrauma expertise and research, and to foster knowledge transfer. Our coordinated cooperation enables us to guarantee more than the financial means for veterans to pay for treatment. The LZV guarantees state-of-the-art, quality-driven treatment and care facilities specifically for veterans that are both available and easily accessible
In April 2018, the LZV organized the International Conference on Veterans Health Care to celebrate their ten-year work on behalf of veterans with deployment related pathology. Each year, we organize a new Dutch Veterans’ Mental Health Conference with national and international speakers, our upcoming meeting will be on the 25th April. The conference location is beautifully situated in the forest in Doorn at the ‘’De Basis’’ (translated: The Base", see building ). Our audience consists of researchers in the field of psychotrauma and veterans with post-traumatic pathology. They will be working for civilian organizations and several military departments. We expect between 40 – 80 participants.
