The rapid evolution of generative AI has fundamentally disrupted traditional assessment practices, prompting an urgent need to reimagine what rigorous and reliable assessments might look like in the digital age. This practical workshop responds directly to this challenge, presenting experiential and authentic assessment design as a robust and pedagogically-principled solution.This practical workshop showcases innovative and diverse examples from across schools and faculties, demonstrating how colleagues have embedded experiential learning principles into assessed activity — from simulation-based tasks and work-integrated projects to reflective portfolios and professional artifact production. Each example will be examined through the dual lens of pedagogical integrity and AI-resistance, considering not only what students learn, but also how assessment design can make this understanding visible in ways that are both authentic and difficult to fabricate.
The session will end with a design sprint, enabling participants to consider assessments used in their own contexts and the ways in which these might be redesigned according to authentic assessment principles, so that colleagues leave this session with concrete ideas to take forward into their own modules or programme contexts.
