Description
This workshop integrates experiential and inquiry-based pedagogies, assessment for learning - through the application of scientific knowledge and in-situ feedback loops - to inform evidence-based decision-making, while also enabling learners to work scientifically, by observing, hypothesizing, testing out their own ideas and collecting performance data. I delivered this workshop as part of the CCCU Year 3 primary science module and it received outstanding feedback for its potential to stimulate six week units of cross-curricular science on materials and survival in a range of imaginative contexts. This workshop was selected for the British Science Festival 2013 at Newcastle University and was awarded CREST STAR accreditation by the British Science Association for its challenging levels of creative problem-solving and decision-making to inform learners’ development and justification of evidence-based arguments.
