Description

Make & Mend Pop-Up Studio was a collaborative creative residency and live studio held at Belsay Hall, Castle & Gardens, Northumberland. Designers and makers from Northumbria University’s Schools of Design, Arts & Creative Industries and Architecture & Built Environment occupied the historic library as a temporary working studio, producing and exhibiting work in response to the site’s architectural, material and social histories.

The project combined live making, public engagement and workshops, foregrounding processes of repair, reuse and material intelligence. Work developed during the residency contributes to a subsequent exhibition, extending the project’s exploration of contemporary craft and design practice within a historic environment.
