Description
Invited participant to a virtual RIBA Education roundtable discussion on the future of architectural education. The discussion was attended by academics, practitioners, students and key stakeholders. The roundtable was prompted by the outcomes emerging from the ARB’s consultation on the initial education and training of architects, and intended to help formulate a response on key topics including alternative routes to registration, the stage at which the ARB should accredit qualifications, how students can best get good quality professional practical experience, apprenticeships and funding models.
The roundtable discussion centred around three topics, each led by a provocation which acted as the initiator of the discussion: 1) access to the profession and routes to registration, 2) competence and 3) conduct and agency.
The most pertinent questions arising from the virtual roundtable formed the basis of an open-call, in-person conference in early 2023 aimed at building an understanding of the opinions of the RIBA membership and validated institutions.
