Description
Lack of money and poor physical and mental health go hand in hand. Financial precariousness and stress go hand in hand. Therefore giving everyone a floor of financial security is a necessary prerequisite for a more healthy and thriving society.Join us at this online event on Tuesday November 14th, 6pm, where Prof Matthew Johnson, of Northumbria University, will take us through the work that he has done on the health case for a Universal Basic Income (UBI). Prof Johnson will show how, by reducing poverty and inequality and providing a predictable and secure future, a Basic Income can improve the lives of millions, and save the NHS billions in the process. There will be plenty of time for Q&A afterwards.
At a time when the JRF says that more than a million children experienced destitution last year alone (https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/oct/24/more-than-1-million-uk-children-experienced-destitution-last-year-study-finds), making sure that everyone has the basic means to lead dignified lives has never been more important. The Lib Dems should be at the forefront of those efforts with a call for a Universal Basic Income.
