Description
For its first New York event, the Fashion Research Network (FRN) has partnered with the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) Graduate Studies, to ask “What is fashion research?” This panel discussion and debate will bring together some of the city’s leading fashion scholars to consider a range of current approaches to fashion research. By inviting a diverse group of curators, designers, conservators, and historians to discuss a range of projects, this event aims to examine the varying methodologies that may be used to produce fashion research today. The Fashion Research Network is a UK based organization that promotes the work of PhD and early career researchers in fashion and dress, with the guiding principle that it is only through sharing, discussion and debate that this young discipline can grow. The FRN, committed to interdisciplinary conversations on fashion, is proud to be continuing its mission at FIT, an institution that has shaped the voice of the fashion industry.Panelists include: Jonathan KYLE Farmer ma(rca); Professor and Chair, MFA Fashion Design, School of Graduate Studies, FIT;Colleen Hill, Curator of Costume and Accessories, Museum at FIT; Anna Reynolds, Curator of Paintings, Royal Collection Trust; Cassandra Gero, Assistant Conservator, Costume Institute,Metropolitan Museum of Art; Francesca Granata, Assistant Professor and Director, MA Fashion Studies, Parsons School of Design.
