Description of impact
We invite you to a participatory workshop, in-person with refreshments provided. This is a 2-hour art workshop, where the participants will first watch a video about collage, engage in discussion about collage and photo-montage art, and hear a summary of research about inclusive practice using arts-based methods. Each participant will then make a collage/photo-montage using magazine images and materials that express, through metaphors, how they feel about difference, diversity and inclusion. Once created, the individual collage pieces will be juxtaposed together to make one large piece of art-work to be later hung in Northumbria University that showcases our beliefs and values on inclusion. This will be visible to partners of the university, parents and students visiting on open days, teachers and current students in ITE.IMPACT:
Feedback from staff at Special School involved:
The collage activity has been wonderful! Collaborating with other sixth formers and students from Northumbria University has enabled our students from Beaconhill Special School sixth form to come out of their shells, mingle with others, and chat, which is so lovely for us to see! The collage work has also given them a creative outlet to use images to express themselves and it has given an insight into their personality.
The mono-printing is a new, simple but effective technique for us, and we are going to use it back in school with all our students.
