Description of impact
The 2016 review of indoor environmental quality and occupant well-being (Al Horr, Arif, Katafygiotou, Mazroei, Kaushik and Elsarrag, 2016) drew together the evidence on how air quality, thermal conditions, lighting and noise affect the people inside buildings. In November 2025 the Australian Academy of Science published "Indoor air: the science of indoor air and pathways to improve indoor air quality in Australia", the national academy's evidence base for enforceable indoor air standards in public buildings. The report cites the review in its account of how indoor air pollution affects cognition, performance, comfort, learning, productivity and sleep. The document is addressed to Australian federal and state government and was launched publicly in November 2025.| Category of impact | Public policy, law and services, Health and welfare |
