Indoor environment research cited in a European Commission study on integrated building renovation (2021)

Impact: Public policy, law and services, Environment

Description of impact

The 2016 review of indoor environmental quality and occupant well-being (Al Horr, Arif, Katafygiotou, Mazroei, Kaushik and Elsarrag, 2016) synthesised the evidence on how the indoor environment affects the health and well-being of occupants. The study "Lessons learned to inform integrated approaches for the renovation and modernisation of the built environment" was commissioned by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Energy and written by BPIE, Climact, Creara and the Ecologic Institute, and its annexes were published by the Publications Office in June 2021. The annexes cite the review in the health and well-being strand, where indoor environmental quality is defined as a determinant of the general health of occupants. The study was commissioned to inform the Commission's building renovation policy.
