Indoor environment research cited in US Congressional Research Service reports on green building (2017 and 2021)

Impact: Public policy, law and services

Description of impact

The 2016 review of occupant productivity and office indoor environment quality (Al Horr, Arif, Kaushik and colleagues, 2016) synthesised the evidence that indoor conditions affect worker comfort and productivity. The Congressional Research Service, the non-partisan research arm of the US Congress, cites the review in its report "Green Building Overview and Issues" (R46719, March 2021) and in the earlier "Infrastructure: Green Building Overview and Issues" (R40147, August 2017). In both, the citation supports the statement that a large share of US workers spend their days in offices and that indoor environmental quality strongly influences their comfort and productivity. CRS reports are the briefing material for members and committees of Congress.
