Occupant productivity research cited in a National Research Council Canada review of building design and organisational productivity (2019)

Impact: Public policy, law and services, Economic, commercial and technological

Description of impact

The 2016 review of occupant productivity and office indoor environment quality (Al Horr, Arif, Kaushik and colleagues, 2016) synthesised the evidence on how buildings affect the performance of the people in them. In 2019 the National Research Council Canada, whose Construction Research Centre leads development of the National Building Code, published "Comparing better building design and operation to other corporate strategies for improving organizational productivity" as a Government of Canada publication (NR24-68/2019E) and in Intelligent Buildings International. The paper cites the review as one of the prior building-focused studies whose evidence it sets out to make convincing to corporate decision-makers.
