Singing the Tudors (Key Stage 2 6-Week Programme Combining History and Music)

Impact: Creativity, culture and society, Pedagogic/curricula (beyond Northumbria)

Description of impact

A 6-lesson programme for Key Stage 2 (7–11 year-olds) which combines music and history to explore the lives of ordinary people in Tudor England through their songs and music.
Each week has a theme which is explored through a combination of looking at primary sources (simplified where necessary), listening to and singing Tudor music, and responding creatively or reflectively.
Designed to be suitable for use by non-music specialist primary teachers – PPTs with embedded videos support the learning and performance of the songs (though scores are provided too). Similarly for non-history specialists, accompanying notes on the topics and the primary sources are provided.
