Biography

Dr. Caroline Burns is Senior Lecturer in English for Academic Purposes and Spanish. She is currently teaching on International Business Management with Spanish. She is co-ordinator for the Unilang Programme. As Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, she is her departmental lead for the University's Professional Recognition awards. She is an active member of the Decolonising Northumbria Network.

Research interests:

Caroline is passionate about creating inclusive educational environments and practices, with students and staff as partners in learning, and where diversity and equality are valued. Her research interests include internationalisation at home, intercultural competence, widening participation and decolonising the curriculum. She is currently leading a project in partnership with Nottingham University and funded by the British Association of Lecturers of English for Academic Purposes (BALEAP) entitled, Getting to know me, getting to know you: Developing materials to enhance intercultural conversations based on a non-essentialist model of culture.
