Personal profile

Biography

I am a passionate, experienced midwife, I qualified in 1998 and have obtained highly varied clinical, educational and research experience in the National Health Service and abroad during my career. I have worked in high and low risk maternity settings, a regional fetal medicine unit and held a delivery suite practice support post. I have been fortunate to work with the Armed Forces in Germany managing a community based caseload, caring for service personnel and their families.  Prior to joining Northumbria University in 2018, my midwifery roles comprised of research delivery within a Clinical Research Network reproductive health team and managing a diverse community caseload, including the support of women who chose to birth at home. I have undertaken extensive, varied and enduring professional development activities throughout my career. Numerous professional development courses and qualifications have informed and supported my ability to deliver high quality maternity care to women and their families over the years.

I am a proud Alumni of Northumbria University, completing an MSc with commendation in 2015 as an element of the Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Clinical Academic Scheme. I have had the benefit of learning in a research rich environment myself, and have first-hand experience of the direct benefit this has to clinical midwifery practice and research delivery. I have an unusual and varied repertoire of clinical, research and practice development experience which inform my role as a senior lecturer in midwifery at Northumbria University.
