Biography

Craig received a Diploma in Norwegian in 2006 from Jeløy Folkehøgskole, following the award of a full scholarship from the Royal Norwegian Embassy in London.  He returned to England in 2006, and obtained his LLB (Hons.) degree from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 2008.  Craig went on to study at Northumbria University and graduated with a LLM in International Commercial Law in 2010.  He was awarded the University of Central Lancashire’s sole scholarship in 2010, to study for a PhD part-time under the supervision of Professor Keyuan Zou and Professor Richard Taylor.  Craig submitted his thesis in 2017.

Before joining Northumbria Law School as a senior lecturer in 2017, Craig had been a lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire (2012-2016), a guest lecturer at the Staatliche Seefahrtschule in Cuxhaven, Germany (2016), and a visiting professor at the University of Mauritius (2014). Craig is currently a visiting professor at Chandigarh University, India.

Craig has been recognised as an innovative lecturer; receiving an award in 2014 for his creative and innovative teaching methods, and being asked by leading publishing houses to write about his experience and expertise.

Craig is the Module Tutor for the Maritime Law Module and he teaches on a number of commercial law modules across a range of the Law School’s programmes.

Research interests

Research interests in the regulation of maritime safety and maritime disasters, autonomous shipping, the ISM Code, corporate manslaughter, and Technology Enhanced/Learning (TEL).
