Personal profile

Further Information

I began my nursing career in theatres specialising in women and children health before qualifying as a Health Visitor. I then went on to work as a Sexual Health Advisor across North Yorkshire where I was able to work collaboratively with a range of services and organisations which included the Military, Primary Care, Secondary Education and Youth services.

My first role within the university was as a senior Lecturer/Practitioner,  taking the lead in implementing a workforce development initiative called Northern Integrated Sexual Health Education (NISHE) for post qualified nurses across County Durham & Darlington. This involved developing and delivery of elearning educational materials along with supporting students in the practice setting. The programme was then franchised out to the University of West England where I was able to also take on the role of project manager to aid delivery of the programme.

In 2012, I joined the pre-registration nursing team where I have been able to introduce, develop and co-ordinate e-learning packages on the programme. Along with teaching pre-registration nursing, I have maintained my post registration nurse teaching with sexual health, safeguarding and public health in the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse programme, where I am persoanl tutor for those following the Sexual Health Advisor route.

I was a memeber of the workforce development team, working in collaboration with external partners such as Public Health England, Local Commissioning groups undertaking research and scoping projects with the view of creating educational packages to develop the workforce.

As well as teaching across both these programmes, in 2015, I became involved in and now Programme Lead for Northumbria University's innovative programme Professional Non-Surgical Aesthetic Practice. I have worked collaboratively with experts in aesthetic practice to develop eduactional materials to enable practitioners to meet the requirements for registration on to the Joint Council of Cosmetic Practitioners register.

I have successfully completed my PhD study exploring the experiences of military spouses whose UK serving partners during a mental health issue.
