Personal profile

Research interests

Dr Emmanuel Ogiemwonyi Arakpogun is a Senior Lecturer in Digital Economy and International Business Strategy with research interests that interlink the liberalisation of the telecoms market and the application of universal access policies as a combined strategy for creating innovative solutions to closing the digital divides in the global south, particularly African countries. His publications and ‘pipeline’ research spans various aspects of strategy and ICT4D using a case study approach. He reviews for journals listed on the Chartered Association of Business Schools, including Information Technology & People and Government Information Quarterly. He is also a reviewer for the Academy of Management (AOM) and the Academy of International Business (AIB).

Before the beginning of his academic career in 2017, Emmanuel worked for over 5 years in the banking and fin-tech sectors - for Equitorial Trust Bank Limited and Sterling Bank Plc in Nigeria up to a Senior Executive level, and Worldpay Group Plc in the UK as a Customer Dispute Officer. He also worked briefly with Robert Bosch GmbH, the German multinational engineering and technology company, as a Sales Analyst intern covering European Sales and Project Management.

Besides research, Emmanuel has a strong passion for learning and teaching with a constructivism teaching philosophy that enables the co-creation of agile knowledge with students. He is also interested in mentoring Ph.D. candidates with research interests in ICT4D, including Digital Inclusion, Fintech & Mobile Money, and the internationalisation of Tech & Telecom MNEs. Prospective Ph.D. candidates can contact him through e.arakpogun@northumbria.ac.uk
