Haibo’s research area is in Building Energy/Carbon Performance, Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment, Building Information Modelling and Smart Buildings/Communities. He has more than 10 years' experience on green buildings, sustainable construction, building energy performance measurements.
His current research is aiming to improve the whole-building life cycle sustainability performance through digital technologies (e.g. BIM, IoTs, Sensors), and further improve the building sector performance at a community level through smart city development. He is trying to conduct optimized planning of smart, sustainable, and connected communities through big data analysis. He is also developing framework to support UK government achieve the carbon reduction targets in the building sector.
Haibo's key research areas include:
Building performance
Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment
Building Information Modelling
Smart buildings/communities
Digital Twins/IoTs/Big data analysis
Dr. Haibo Feng PMP, LEED AP, is a Lecturer working in the Construction and Project Management team, and he is a member of the Built Environment Digital Futures research group. He is currently working closely with colleagues to secure funding regarding building performance, digital construction, smart communities, and life cycle sustainability assessment.
He received the postdoctoral fellowship NSERC-PDF and top Canadian graduate scholarship NSERC-CGS for his PhD studies. Haibo also received the NSERC Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplement scholarship and conducted a half year visiting study in ETH Zurich. Ever since haibo started the graduate studies, he has already published over 20 journals and conference papers. Haibo was also in the board member of ISIE Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment Section. He is an active reviewer for many top journals, such as Building and Environment, Journal of Cleaner Production, Energy and Buildings, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Sustainability, etc.
In addition to his research, Haibo is also actively engaged in professional practice. He worked in a consulting firm in Vancouver Canada from 2013-2016 in the business of sustainable construction (Green building, Net-zero energy, LEED and Low carbon building consultation). He also has three years of site experience in the building construction management industry in the Dubai and Kuwait. He also received the PMP and LEED AP certificate due to his experience.
I welcome prospective PhD and Doctoral students with proposals in one of the topics above and/or related areas. I also welcome visiting scholars from the globe to collaborate on research and teachings. To discuss your proposal, please contact me by email on: Haibo.feng@northumbria.ac.uk.
