Biography

Jie Ma is an Associate Professor in Operations Management and Programme Leader at Newcastle Business School. An award-winning faculty member, he is recognised for excellence in teaching and research. His work spans operations management, supply chain management, and operations excellence, with recent research focusing on supply chain risk management, inclusive supply chains, and off-site construction. He has published in leading journals including Transportation Research Part E, Information Technology & People, Journal of Business Research, and Production Planning and Control.

Jie has developed a growing national and international reputation through editorial roles with journals such as Cogent Business & Management and Frontiers in Organizational Psychology, as well as guest editorships for Sustainability and Frontiers in Psychology. He has also served as a track chair and review committee member for EurOMA.

He has successfully secured external funding, including ESRC grants and collaborative projects with local councils, alongside internal awards such as the RIS Seed Fund and the RDF PhD Studentship. His industry collaborations include a project with an international company on recycling processes, which was later published as a teaching case study.

In leadership, Jie coordinates international partnerships, leads dual award programmes, and supports research groups. He is also an active member of the University’s BAME network and has taught at universities across Europe and China.
