I am a former journalist with Agence France-Presse in Paris and the Middle East, and author of Fashion Journalism (Routledge, 2020).
I trained as a journalist on the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, where I worked as news reporter, investigative reporter and consumer editor. I then joined AFP and worked in the Middle East, before transferring to the agency’s Paris headquarters and working on fashion, lifestyle and news.
I set up BA (Hons) Fashion Journalism at Sunderland University before moving to Northumbria, where I am now programme leader for BA (Hons) Fashion Communication.
At Northumbria I teach on modules including Fashion Journalism and Photography, Fashion Editorial, Major Project, and Contextual Studies. I’m also working towards a PhD by publication on the theme of social media and the re-mediation of fashion.
My research interests are focused on fashion journalism, bloggers and influencers, and how fashion is mediated for young audiences. I have written two editions of Fashion Journalism, published by Routledge, and am currently developing work into professional identites related to fashion media.
