Biography

Dr. Tommy (Kam Ho) Chan is a Senior Lecturer in Business Information Management at the Department of Marketing, Operations and Systems at Newcastle Business School (NBS). He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Information Systems Research from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2017 and joined the NBS in the same year.

Tommy's research interests include (i) Societal implications of information technology use (cyberbullying, technology addiction, social media, well-being) and (ii) Digital businesses and online consumer behaviors (impulse buying, customer engagement, social media firestorms).

His works have been published in world-leading and internationally excellent journals in both information systems (IS) and marketing disciplines, for example, Journal of Management Information Systems (AJG4, FT50, IF 7.838), Information Systems Journal (AJG4, IF 7.453), Information & Management (AJG3, IF 7.555), Technological Forecasting & Social Change (AJG3, IF 8.593), Internet Research (AJG3, IF 6.773), Industrial Marketing Management (AJG3, IF 6.960) and others.

Using a research-informed approach, Tommy synergises learning and teaching activities with his research knowledge. His teaching has been consistently rated highly across a variety of programmes and student cohorts. He has experience in delivering various modules, such as management information systems, digital marketing, business analytics, and project management.

Tommy engages in various scholarly services and activities in the discipline and the business school. He is an associate editor for Internet Research and on the editorial review board for Industrial Management & Data Systems and Journal of Computer Information Systems. He is also an ad hoc reviewer for the AIS Senior Scholars' basket of journals and the Hong Kong Research Grants Council. Tommy serves as a track co-chair and an associate editor for various tracks in International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS), Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems (PACIS), and Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS).

Tommy is a coordinator for the department's workload and planning team, a member of the Race Equality Charter self-assessment team, a member for the Research and Knowledge Exchange Committee, and a sub-committee member for the AACSB Assurance of Learning Committee.
