Lesley’s principal area of research are the history of Marian art, literature, and doctrine, as well as the nature of the sacred. She has also written books and articles on women’s writing (Isabel de Villena, Teresa of Ávila), and medieval material culture (textiles, embroidery, perfumes). Her current research project is ‘Elite women’s writing and the Holy Word’.
Lesley Twomey is Professor in Medieval and Golden Age Hispanic Art and Literature at the University of Northumbria. She has published widely on the Virgin Mary in Art and Literature. She belongs to a number of European funded research groups, including
1. LITHACAT, ‘La literatura hagiográfica catalana entre el manuscrito y la imprenta’ (Universitat d’Alacant) and
2. project “La poesía de cancionero en tiempos de los primeros Trastámara castellanos: Texto, contextos, ecos y relecturas.” PGC2018-093619-B-I00 (MCIU/AEI/FEDER, UE).
