Lindsay Findlay-King is HLS Faculty Director for Quality Assurance. She has been an academic at Northumbria for over 20 years. During that time she has taught a range of sport management subjects, with a current focus on volunteering and applied projects. Lindsay also teaches the volunteer management and legacy section of a flagship postgraduate module in International Sport Event Management, which includes an annual executive fieldtrip to International Sport federations and the IOC in Lausanne, Switzerland. Lindsay completeda BA (Hons) in Modern History and Politics and an MA (with distinction) in Leisure Management at Sheffield University. Lindsay’s main research interests focus on sport volunteering issues and driving up sport participation. She is Chair of the UK Sports Volunteering Research Network.

Lindsay’s doctoral research focused on a qualitative, life history based, exploration of sport participation, experience, and identity in the transition into mid-life. However her greatest research interest lies in sport volunteering. She has been involved extensively in sport volunteering experience, recruitment and retention studies, from uniformed youth organisations to sports club settings. Her current research interests focus on the asset transfer of local authority sport (and library) facilities to voluntary community groups, including the successful management and sustainability of these enterprises. This has included case studies across the UK and a current study of the transfer of five sports centres in one UK local authority and the lessons learnt for local authority and voluntary groups.
