Dr Lynn McInnes completed her PhD in Psychology at the University of Manchester then commenced postdoctoral work with North East Age Research, studying cognitive ageing in a longitudinal study, a research interest which has continued throughout her academic career.
Lynn joined the Department of Psychology at Northumbria University in 1997. She is currently the Director of Education for the Department of Psychology. Lynn leads foundation year and undergraduate modules in Academic Skills and Personality and Health Psychology and contributes to research supervision of undergraduate, Masters and PhD students.
Lynn’s current research relates to understanding i) the impact of ageing on cognitive performance, ii) the impact of ageing on health and wellbeing and iii) hoarding behaviour, especially that of older adults. Lynn is a member of the department’s Health and Wellbeing Research Group (Psychobiology of Stress and Wellbeing Research Group and the Hoarding Research Group) and the Cognition and Neuroscience Group (Memory, Perception, and Attention). Her research employs longitudinal study methods and a specific aspect of her recent research has focused on changes in mobility with ageing.
Lynn is a Senior Fellow of the HEA, a Chartered Psychologist and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS).
