Mark’s research is primarily focused on collaborative art making, investigational curating and intermedia practice. His research activity varies from exhibitions and collaborative performances to radio programmes, talks, audio projects and science fiction stories. These include exhibtions and programming as the curator at IMT Gallery, a contemporary art gallery in London, which he started with gallery director Lindsay Friend in 2005; performances, texts and video work as part of the mythopoetic fiction Plastique Fantastique (with David Burrows, Simon O’Sullivan, Alex Marzeta, Vanessa Page and others), exhibtions and artworks as part of Blue Mountain Arcturus (with Allan Hughes) and artistic responses as part of the research group NEUSCHLOSS (with Fiona Crisp, Charles Danby, Allan Hughes, Tom O’Sullivan, Joanne Tatham and others). He is currently working on a book on curatorial practice at IMT Gallery, to be published by Routledge, and co-authoring (with Allan Hughes) a chapter on their work Citadel of Chaos (2019) for the forthcoming Utopia on the Tabletop, edited by Jo Lindsay Walton. Recent publications include 'Donnerrollen/Rolling Thunder', a catalogue text for the Henrik Schrat monograph Orangerie bei Nacht, and This is a Game Called 'Hello, Hello, Here is X.X.', a limited-edition vinyl made from a recorded interview between William S. Burroughs and journalist Roger Clarke.  Mark’s doctoral thesis was a study of the tape experiments of Burroughs as a model for curatorial strategy.

Mark is a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art Critical Theory and Curatorial Practices in the Arts department. He studied Fine Art at the University of East London and the Slade School of Fine Art, completing his doctorate at University of the Arts London in the Centre for Creative Research in Sound Arts Practice (CRiSAP) at London College of Communication. He spent six years teaching on the MA Sound Arts at LCC and a year teaching Fine Art at Southampton Solent before joining Visual and Material Cultures at Northumbria in 2014. He became a Senior Lecturer in 2016. Mark is the curator at IMT Gallery, London.
