Personal profile

Biography

Dr. Riad Shams is a lecturer in Marketing at University of Northumbria. Prior to joining Northumbria University, he worked in academia and industry in Australia, Bangladesh and Russia. He has completed his doctoral research from Central Queensland University, Australia. His MBA and BBA (honours in marketing) were awarded by the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. 

Dr. Shams has contributed articles to top-tier international journals, and guest edited for various reputed journals, namely Journal of International Management, International Marketing Review, Journal of Business Research and other international journals. 

He has obtained second place in Cambridge-Kent-Czinkota Competition for Excellence in International Business Case Writing - 2019 for his case “Ecological Sustainability Beyond Borders”, and has entered into the Kent Business School’s Book of Honour. Dr. Shams was awarded the Emerald Literati Award – Outstanding Paper in 2019, Emerald Literati Award – Outstanding Reviewer in 2018, and the EuroMed Research Contributor Award in 2014. 

Research interests

His research attempts to analyse the “cause and consequence of stakeholder relationships and interactions as a stakeholder causal scope” to recognise stakeholders' value anticipation, in order to co-create value in a way that the stakeholders expect and accept. Following this central cross-disciplinary and cross-functional research focus, Dr. Shams pursues his work in the following areas: 

-          international marketing;

-          brand management;

-          relationship marketing;

-          sustainable development;

-          social business.
