Robert Jefferson was born in the North East of England. Following a training in Stagecraft he worked as a designer/maker in theatre and TV.

After graduating from Northumbria University in 1997 with a first class honours degree, Robert's RTS award-winning film 'Scuttlebutt Coffin' was screened on BBC 2 and in film festivals around the world. ’Scuttlebutt Coffin’ was screened in the retrospective ‘Words In Motion’ strand at the Ottawa Animation Festival in 2004.

His film 'Salt Blizzard', supported by the NPF at Northern Arts, toured the UK in the Public Choice section of the British Animation Awards in 2002 and was also broadcast by Spain's Canal 9.

Most recently the OFAFA Festival of Auteur Animation in Poland screened a programme of his work 1997-2007.

He made animation sequences from a 35mm live action lottery funded film about the war poet Wilfred Owen, which had special screenings at Cannes. This was the first UK short to have a 35mm laser print.

Robert creates the music and soundtracks for his films himself using junkshop instrumentation and found objects.

‘The Dark Lantern’, a programme commissioned by TTTV and Northern Film and Media, was a 16 minute cut out animation with Live action bookend sequences starring TV icon David Soul, who also provided the sonorous voice over to the animation.
