Dr Rose Quan is an Associate Professor in International Business, Entreprenership and Strategy at Newcastle Business School at Univerity of Northumbria at Newcastle. Rose is also an Affiliate Professor at several universities in China. Prior to joining the business school in 2005, Rose worked in various industries in China, the US and the UK, holding positions such as Marketing Manager and Purchasing Manager for over 15 years. She has collaborated with key clients, including Ann Summer, Woolworth, H Samuel and Claire's in the UK. Since joining the business school, Rose has played a pivotal role in developing and fostering partnerships with numerous universities, representing the business school in various international development projects in China. She is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK and has been nominated for student-led teaching awards multiple times.
As a qualitative researcher, Rose has successfully supervised numerous PhD and DBA students, leading the supervision team. Her scholarly work has been published in respected journals such as the International Business Review, Teaching in Higher Education, the European Journal of International Business Management, and International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation among others. Additionaly, Rose serves as a co-project leader (the Package - 6) for the Global Entrepreneruial Talent Management research project, which received funding exceeding 1 million Euros from the EU's Horizon 2020 and the Korean Research Foundation in 2016. This project invovles collaboration with nine universities in five countries across the UK, Europe and Asia. Additionally, Rose is a co-researcher for the IAU (Innovation for Afrian Universities) YEAP research project (Young Entrepreneur Accelerator Programme(, funded by the British Council in 2022.
My primary reserch interest is the area of internationalisation of organisations and individuals, encompassing market entry strategy and location choices for both MNEs and SMEs, migrant entreprenership, international students and staff mobilities, entreprenership education.
