Bio

Sadie Diamond-Fox is an Assistant Professor in Advanced Critical Care Practice and Subject Co-Lead for Advanced Practitioner Programmes at Northumbria University, where she leads postgraduate education and research focused on workforce development, simulation, and digital transformation in healthcare. She also practises clinically as an Advanced Critical Care Practitioner with North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust and holds an honorary appointment as Assistant Professor in Advanced Clinical Practice at the University of Nottingham.

Her research portfolio investigates advanced practice workforce sustainability, immersive education, inclusivity, and digital innovation across critical care and broader healthcare contexts. Sadie Diamond-Fox currently leads on ten major national studies:

  • SUPERVISE-AP – Supervision Evaluation in Advanced Practice, benchmarking national supervision standards against NHSE (2025) guidance.

  • SPA-AP – Supporting Professional Activities in Advanced Practice, examining equity of SPA time across roles and settings.

  • MAPPED – Mapping Advanced Practitioners: Practice in England Dataset, analysing Advanced Practitioner workforce distribution and trends.

  • CRITICAL-VR – Clinical Response and Immersive Training for Intensive Care Assessment and Learning using Virtual Reality.

  • APEX-VR – Advanced Practice Education using Virtual Reality for Anatomy and Pathophysiology.

  • ACT-DDONOR – Advanced Critical Care Practitioner Training Needs for Organ and Tissue Donor Care, integrating simulation and digital learning.

  • INSIGHT-AP – AI-Enhanced Education in Sexual and Reproductive Health for Advanced Practitioners, addressing Core20PLUS5 priorities through simulation and conversational-AI learning.

  • RECAP – Research Engagement Challenges for Advanced Practitioners, exploring barriers and enablers to research pillar engagement.

  • SUSTAIN-ACCP – Sustainable Careers in Advanced Critical Care Practice across the UK and Crown Dependencies.

Together, these programmes advance understanding of sustainable careers, digital transformation, inclusivity, supervision, and research capacity within advanced and consultant-level practice.

Sadie serves on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Advancing Practice, advises the Council of Deans of Health Advanced Practice Regulation Strategic Policy Group, and is Co-Chair of the Advanced Critical Care Practitioners Northern & Yorkshire Region (ACCPNYR). She is also a Faculty Member of the UK Academy of Advancing Practice Research, a peer reviewer for BMJ Evidence-Based Medicine and Mark Allen Group journals, and co-editor of several forthcoming Wiley-Blackwell textbooks on advanced practice education, leadership, and clinical decision-making.

Her scholarly interests include simulation pedagogy, immersive and AI-enhanced learning, equality and inclusion in advanced practice, postgraduate education, and workforce policy and sustainability.
