Personal profile

Research interests

I am a social geographer, with expertise in quantitative methods and Geographical Information Systems/Science mostly applied in urban settings. I am associate editor for the journal Heliyon Environment and co-editor for the journal Environment & Planning B: Urban Analytics and City Science (SAGE).

My research and teaching interests involve the analysis of large spatial data related to urban sprawl and land use change, health inequalities and active transport (walking and cycling) and more recently, linguistic landscapes. The substantive question driving my research is to what extent the environment (broadly defined) influences individual behaviours and outcomes. I am also a great advocate of open data and open source software for scientific research and dissemination.
