Biography
Dr Shaun Shen (publish as Xiang Shen) is a Senior Lecturer in applied aerodynamics, with expertise in experimental fluid dynamics (wind tunnel testing), flow control and visualisation, aerodynamic and thermal design, and multidisciplinary optimisation. He is currently the academic lead in Northumbria University Wind Tunnel (NUWT).
Shaun received his PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from Queen Mary University of London in the UK and subsequently conducted aerodynamic & thermal management research in Newcastle University as a postdoc research associate in Professor Barrie Mecrow’s group. He was also a visiting scholar at Tohoku University in Japan in 2008 and 2009.
Shaun has actively led or participated in aerodynamics-related research projects, such as the Royal Society project “Research on the mechanisms of dynamic stall of the wind turbine blades equipped with vortex generators”, the EPSRC project "UK Turbulence Consortium" and the China State Program "Fundamental Research on Aerodynamics of Large-Scale Wind Turbine". He is the invited reviewer for academic journals such as Physics of Fluids, Flow Measurement and Instrumentation, the Aeronautical Journal, etc.
