Accepting PhD Students
Sue is a Registered Nurse with 37 years working within clinical nursing, nurse education and healthcare research. Her clinical nursing has focused upon the care of people with brain trauma and malignancies, the needs of people in suicidal distress, and genetics in cardiology.
Her PhD was awarded in 2018 with the title of her thesis being ‘Student Nurse Professionalism: Repertoires and Discourses used by University Students and their Lecturers’. Her PhD explores the student journey to professional socialization through the language they use.
Sue is a Principal Lecturer in Adult Nursing, a Registered Nurse Tutor, and an Advance Higher Education Fellow. Her current research interests all aim to improve and enhance the student’s experience in both the academic and the clinical nursing practice setting.
As Departmental Director for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion for Nursing, Midwifery and Health, Sue is committed to ensuring students from minority, and widening participation groups have a voice at all stages of their education experiences.
Sue led the Departmental Self-Assessment Team to a Bronze Athena Swan Award in 2020.
