Personal profile

Research interests

I am a member of the CyberNetwork Systems and Security Research Group (CyberNets) at Northumbria University. My research interests lie at the intersection of computer networks, cyber security, and data privacy. I have rich research experience in applying mathematical, computing, engineering techniques to resolve problems in networked cyber-physical systems, such as protocol design, resource allocation, QoS, optimisation, fairness in wireless LANs, wireless sensor networks, vehicular networks, UAV networks, Internet of Things. On top of the underlying networked systems, I am also interested in practical technologies in enhancing security and privacy of data carried by the cyber-physical systems. My recent work is focused on integrating privacy preserving solutions, such as differential privacy, federated learning, multi-party computation, into Machine Learning pipeline and striking a trade-off theoretically and empirically between data utility and privacy protection, in application domains such as e-commerce, recommender systems, digital health,  intelligent transportation, finance systems and social media.
