Biography

Yao Zhang is a Lecturer in Mechanical and Construction Engineering, Northumbria University. She obtained her Ph.D. from the Department of Control Science and Engineering, Harbin Institute of Technology, China. Before joining Northumbria University, she was a postdoctoral researcher at Queen Mary University of London from 2018 to 2020. 

Her research interests include robust model predictive control, sliding mode control and observation, learning-based control, and control applications to deep space exploration, wave energy, and marine engineering. She has published more than 20 journal papers, including IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy, IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, and 5 conference papers, including IFAC 2020, ACC 2019.

She is a member of IEEE and the local event coordinator in IEEE Control Systems Committee (the United Kingdom and Republic Ireland Chapter)
