Abstract

Nursing students are exposed to stress when they undertake clinical placements and stress may be associated with increasing attrition rates in nursing undergraduate courses. Mindfulness meditation training has previously been shown to reduce stress in registered nurses. This chapter describes a mixed methods feasibility study which examined the usefulness and effectiveness of mindfulness meditation in improving situational stressresponse resilience in nursing students. The chapter concludes by identifying recommendations for future mindfulness meditation research methodologies. Recommendations are also made for nursing undergraduate curriculum and undergraduate nursing student support services development.
