Abstract
This chapter describes three experiences of transforming (or not!) a dissertation into a journal article, and provides a summary of tips for the process. The first experience I share is when a student successfully completes the dissertation, but does not publish a journal article based on the research; I call this the vanishing act. The second type of experience, going solo, is when the student drafts an article for publication without mentorship from the supervisor. And, finally, I share the most rewarding experience of collaborating between student and supervisor to transform a dissertation to a published journal article.
