Abstract
A U-shape Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) optical fiber sensor for ultrahigh sensitive streptavidin detection is designed and demonstrated experimentally. The U-shape fiber sensor was made by a tapered seven-core microfiber structure with a sensitivity of approximately 1500 ~nm / RIU at refractive index range of 1.33 at wavelength range of 1550 nm. Biotinantibodies were immobilized on the surface of an optical fiber sensor to specifically capture streptavidin. Experimental results showed that this fiber sensor has a detection range for streptavidin from 0 to 10 pg / mL with a maximum wavelength shift of 0.35 nm and an ultralow limit of detection of 1.5 fg/mL.
