Abstract
This chapter develops a nuanced understanding of the journey of adult second language learners to proficiency in morphosyntax. The ideas are based on previous research on second language acquisition and are applied to develop understanding of how learners sometimes struggle to learn what teachers teach and sometimes learn things which are not taught.
