Abstract
This is the Afterword to Adam de Paor-Evans, Hip Hop in the Sticks: A Deepening Con/Text (Squagle House, 2023). I reflect on the writing practice at play in Hip Hop in the Sticks, which I interpret as fleshy, messy, and material. It is a type of writing that hinges between the literal and the metaphorical. I use McKenzie Wark’s distinction between high and low theory, and the interplay of those positions to suggest that Hip Hop in The Sticks raises questions of canon and counter-canon, high and low theory, the urban commons, and alternative practices of knowledge making. The writing of the Afterword is in dialogue with the writing performed in Hip Hop in the Sticks.
