An Analysis of Critical Success Factors for Digital Transformation in Agri-food Supply Chains

Abstract

This chapter identifies and evaluates critical success factors (CSFs) for digital transformation in agri-food supply chains, focusing on the Brazilian and Indian craft beer industry. Expert insights were collected using the Fuzzy DEMATEL method to assess the causal relationships among 14 CSFs related to sustainability, resilience, and technological adoption. Key findings indicate that digital logistics infrastructure, e-governance, trust and collaboration, and social sustainability are essential for achieving resilient supply chain performance. In addition, the chapter contrasts the Brazilian and Indian craft beer industries, outlining similarities and differences in raw material sourcing, production, and supply chain structures. These comparative insights provide contextual depth for emerging market strategies. The findings offer practical recommendations for improving traceability, reducing food waste, and enabling effective digital adoption, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Stakeholders can enhance supply chain adaptability and sustainability by prioritizing strategic enablers such as smart farming and AI-driven analytics.
