Abstract

Exhibition of 2D / flat work of Motion Graphics & Animation students pre-animation. This exhibition showed at Northumbria University School of Design and the University of West England. ‘Ante Animate’ revealed the rich, illustrative and inventive 2D/flatwork of Motion Graphics & Animation students. The viewer was given the opportunity to explore the design development work that underpins animation, character animation and special effects projects. The final animated solution was not the focus, but rather how the students explored the brief; how they initiated, developed and experimented with their ideas in 2D, on paper and in initial digital animation tests. It included concept generation exercises, thematic illustrations, storyboards, character designs and illustrated concepts for complex special effects projects. These elements of their project work are rarely seen outside the confines of assessment. The exhibition was not only aimed at celebrating the directed drawing talents of these students and their responses to a brief, but also sought to unravel the complexity of the design process.
