N2 - The user acceptance issues in biometrics are discussed. The self-service environment, particularly the ATM, provides a unique environment for biometric implementation. The growth of biometrics has been driven from a mainly system-centered approach, dealing with the problems of unique digital identifier extraction, template handling and recognition algorithms. In the financial sector there are many challenges to overcome and more research is needed to ensure that the technology is universally usable, especially by the elderly members of the society.
