Abstract

Our selection of influential, or classic, papers relating to the knee was based on citation frequency. We accept the somewhat flawed nature of this approach but believe citation frequency acts as an aid in measuring how much of an academic influence a publication has had in its subject area. Many of these papers have shaped the development of our current understanding of the structure and function of the knee in the injured or diseased state. Some have informed current orthopedic practice with the proposition of techniques that are still used to this very day.
