Abstract

This chapter examines the complex issue of climate change, highlighting its importance in modern discussions and the crucial role of organizational leaders in managing climate-related risks and opportunities. It advocates for integrating climate science into business strategies to enhance resilience, drive innovation, and gain competitive advantages. The chapter details the greenhouse effect and how it is exacerbated by human activities, resulting in global warming and significant ecological, societal, and economic impacts. It discusses key greenhouse gases, their sources, and varying warming potentials, emphasizing targeted mitigation strategies and the role of climate models and projections in policy and business decisions. The chapter explores the wide-ranging impacts of climate change, such as temperature rise, altered precipitation, melting ice, rising sea levels, ocean acidification, extreme weather events, biodiversity loss, and human health effects. It stresses the need for comprehensive mitigation and adaptation strategies involving international cooperation, stakeholder engagement, and integrated climate policies.
