Abstract
Artists' project commissioned by Pavilion 8 magazine, Bucharest. This commissioned text is edited from a response to issues raised by the artist Terry Atkinson, following Common Culture's exhibition, Spectacular Vernacular, in Leamington Spa Art Gallery, England, January 2005. Bouncers, in the form of a series of large-scale portraits and DVD screening, forms part of their solo show at Focal Point Gallery, Southend-on- Sea, England, October/ November 2005. The text explores Common Culture's interest in live performance as part of their presentational strategy for a show and in particular examines their use of 'hired' labour. The text/image project appeared alongside other projects by:Jeff Koons, Kutlug Ataman, Maurizio Cattelan, Nathalie Latham, Philip Lorca Di Corcia. & Tracey Emin and articles/interviews by Slavoj Zizek, Jean Baudrillard and Boris Groys.
