Abstract

Computers have become a part of our day-to-day life. It would be hard to imagine our day without the direct or indirect use of the computer. But chemicals used during the manufacturing of computer parts/peripherals result in harmful toxic waste when disposed of, damaging the environment severely. The desperate need is felt for a greener form of computing that minimally affects the environment. Term green computing is used to design and manufacture the computer to maximize computer utilization without adversely affecting the environment. It also addresses various other issues like energy efficiency, eco-friendly hardware and software, material recycling, etc. There has been much development in recent times, 'green computing,' and there is still more to do. This paper surveys different dimensions of green computing and their impact on other organizations. Moreover, this paper offers a framework to be adopted by various organizations to adapt to green computing. The proposed framework assesses green computing preparedness by grading it and guides an organization to increase the green computing involvement in the organization.
