Abstract

Inspired by the contributions within the collection, this final chapter reflects upon current trends in the discipline of legal history and the positives and potential of global legal history. Legal history is a very different discipline to forty years ago, and this chapter explores some of the changes to the wider discipline, including the increasingly global perspective, galvanized by both subject matter and the geographical location of researchers themselves. Directed at a discipline which is continuously updating itself, this chapter reiterates the purpose of the book, to showcase the breadth of exciting historical research in the area of law and empire, and the value of global perspectives to all historical research.
